For decades, the traditional model of household economic behavior assumed a nuclear family and a standardized structure. But recent seismic shifts in family composition (e.g., childless, cohabiting, blended) and in the ways family members shop, save, and work are bringing challenges to the unitary model and opening up new avenues for study. In Household Economic Behaviors, a distinguished panel of researchers offers theoretical analysis and empirical findings that reflect the complex realities of contemporary family decision-making.
